London, UK | AFP | A female baby white rhino born in England has been baptized “Queenie” in honor of the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II’s reign, which is celebrated in June in the United Kingdom.
“All rhinos are named after space personalities and I think we can all agree that 2022 will always be special for the platinum jubilee.” [70 años] of Queen Elizabeth”, explained on Saturday the director of the animal reserve where the rhino was born, in Cotswold (southern England).
“It seemed a bit presumptuous to me to call the newborn ‘Isabel’ so we named her ‘Queenie’ instead,” he added. Queen means queen in English.
Queenie thus joins a list made up of plates of food, cakes, ships, trains and buildings that have been named in honor of the queen.
From June 2 (the day of the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953) and until June 5, festivities, military parades, concerts and popular lunches are planned to celebrate the queen’s platinum jubilee.
Isabel II, who will turn 96 in April, is in a fragile state of health, after several problems and having had covid-19 three weeks ago.
On Friday, the queen announced that she would not participate in a British Commonwealth ceremony in London, in what would have been her first major event in months.
