The Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) together with the District, reported on the delicate state of health of a minor belonging to the Emberá communitywithin the Integral Protection Unit (UPI) ‘Parque La Florida’, struggling between life and death.
According to the ICBF, as soon as the condition of the 11-month-old child was known, an attempt was made to transfer the minor to a hospital, but it was not possible due to the refusal of the community itself.
“The family in the morning hours, they leave the UPI, without a defined course or destination, denying the possibility of properly assisting him once the Family Police Station arrives and ICBF team,” he said in a statement.

In addition, the entity mentioned that After the minor fled, an active search began throughout the city, focusing on sectors where it could possibly have been located. and in this way persuade the parents to medically assist the Emberá child.
“During the afternoon, the family returns to the UPI La Florida; thanks to the mediation of a community leader and the entities of the District urgently achieve the assessment of the child and subsequent transfer to a Hospital Centerwhere he is receiving the necessary medical attention,” he said.

The entity together with the District stressed that the state of health of the minor se would have deteriorated for a long time, while his family tried to cure him through ancestral ritualsso it was decided to take the respective controls to save his life.
Bogota’s Ministry of Health had already confirmed the death of another child under a month old belonging to the Emberá community, within the UPI La Riojaon February 18, 2023, with this case, three children died this year in the indigenous reservation of the city.
