Tinnitus is an ear condition, a ringing sound, that affects millions of people around the world. And that is the basis for the creation of a character, a young boy, who suffers from it, which is why, presumably, he wears headphones with music playing all the time to be able to mask and endure that hellish discomfort. (Only those of us who suffer from it know how damn annoying it is). That is how young Baby needs to listen to songs all the time to silence that ringing that has been disturbing his ears since an accident in childhood (which we assume the director conveniently uses to print a kinetic narrative supported by music). A good driver, he is the official getaway pilot for Doc’s (Kevin Spacey) robberies, but he can’t wait to leave the position, especially after he finds himself in love with a girl who even makes him forget about his tinnitus. So you know that if Kevin Spacey is in the group of actors with Jamie Foxx, then the film has something good, and boy does it have it, starting with the good pace and the excellent editing that indicates a symbiotic aesthetic between various film genres. The scenic genius with car races surpasses Fast and Furious (all of them since the first one…), with the difference that here it is real cinema. Of course, being at the wheel of a car on the run and pursued by an army of police vehicles, getting away with it and escaping the way he does, that is for a superhuman. The most interesting thing is the musical counterpoint with the vehicular escape. Also, you have to see the very good change of register between the first sequences and the romantic scenes. The dialogues adapt to the scenic speed and with the care to find references in the memory of the spectator. With a directional talent, the directors go through and manipulate the emotional and gore style. The scenes and sequences are subject to the aesthetics of the music video, in which there is always a song or music that adapts to the dramatic twists. This scheme of building the whole story from music clips is so original that the experience becomes sensorially interesting even for those who do not like Hollywood action films very much. And the almost two hours that it lasts fly by! On Netflix with that title.
