MIAMI, United States. – Cuban musicians Aymée Nuviola and Gonzalo Rubalcaba were nominated for “Duo of the Year” at the JJA Jazz Awards, which is delivered by the Jazz Journalists Association of Americaaccording to transcended at the end of April.

Rubalcaba was also nominated in the “Pianist of the Year” category.

“Grateful and honored to be nominated for ‘Duo of the Year’ along with my great friend, the maestro Gonzalo Rubalcaba at the JJA Jazz Awards, among so many talented artists”, Nuviola wrote on his official Instagram account. “Thanks to the JJA for this recognition,” she added.

For his part, Rubalcaba thanked to the JJA Awards for considering his work with Nuviola. “We receive this recognition with humility, joy and honor to share this appreciation with highly distinguished colleagues,” she wrote. He also thanked for being included in the category of “Pianist of the Year” together with “luminaries of jazz pianism”.

Rubalcaba and Nuviola have worked together on Live in Marciacan album that was kept in the archives of the US Library of Congress. In December 2022, that institution summoned both Cuban artists to record a concert, and thus preserve the Latin Grammy-winning album in the category “ Best Traditional Tropical Album”.

Aymée Nuviola, born in Havana in 1973 and known as “La sonera del mundo”, has won two Grammy Awards and one Latin Grammy throughout her career. In addition to being a singer, pianist and composer, the Cuban artist has ventured into acting, where her interpretation of the Queen of Salsa stands out, Celia Cruzin the Colombian novel Celia, released in 2015.

Gonzalo Rubalcaba, born in Cuba in 1963, has been selected by the magazine Piano & Keyboard Magazine as one of the great pianists of the 20th century, along with figures such as Glenn Gould, Martha Argerich and Bill Evans. The Cuban, winner of two Grammy Awards and two Latin Grammy Awards, has established himself as a creative force in the world of jazz.
