On the last day of the 2023 Jazz Plaza International Festival, fans of Xiomara Laugart, “La Negra”, as the singer is also known, will be able to enjoy her very personal style on a set that she will share with her son Axel and the artists who accompany.
“This is a special night. She will take you back to the 90s,” Tosca announced on her social media.
Admired inside and outside the island, Xiomara Laugart is the owner of a beautiful contralto voice and a vivid and exceptional sense of rhythm. With the New York label Chesky Records, she made her international debut and shared the stage with true world music legends such as Celia Cruz and Tito Puente.
Based in the United States, she has performed sporadically in Cuba in recent years.
For his part, his son Axel stands out as a panist, producer and composer, and has performed together with Afro Cuban All Stars, Teresa García Caturla and Bobby Carcasés, among others.
In Cuba he was part of the hip-hop scene and in the United States he studied at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary. Axel is well known for the dynamism of his performances and the mix he makes of different genres.
Other proposals for closure
The organizers of Jazz Plaza 2023 have reserved for this Sunday the performance of the pianist Ernán López-Nussa and his guests in the Sala Covarrubias of the National Theater, at 6:00 pm.
An hour later, the violinist Yilian Cañizares and the New Generation will perform in the theater of the National Museum of Fine Arts and at 9:00 pm the pianist Roberto Fonseca, general artistic director of the event, will perform in the Avellaneda Hall.
Inspired by a music that knows no borders and founded 40 years ago, the Jazz Plaza International Festival concludes this Sunday in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, the two venues of the event.
