Given the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) in electoral issues, the Citizen Movement bench in the Chamber of Deputies asked the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for a protection mechanism to avoid irreparable damage
regarding electoral reform.
The MC coordinator, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, reported yesterday that his bench formally requested the IACHR to issue precautionary measures against the CNDH for its illegal and unconstitutional interference in the discussion of the political-electoral reform that is being carried out these days in the Legislative Power, particularly
in San Lazaro.
He argued that the National Electoral Institute (INE) is not wanted as the CNDH is today, that is, a body submitted to power, subordinate, that does not defend the interest of Mexicans, but of the government in turn, as the National Commission does. They are the best example of what we should not do with the INE
pointed out the deputy.
MC explained that the recommendation issued by the CNDH on the electoral reform constitutes a violation of the principle of substantive democracy, essential for the exercise of the guarantees provided for in the American Convention on Human Rights, by attempting to exert pressure on the Legislative Power to approve the changes. proposed by the Executive. It was also requested that the State adopt all necessary measures to guarantee democratic stability in Mexico and to be able to fulfill its international commitments to promote and consolidate democracy.
The PRD parliamentary group in San Lázaro joined the call for the march for the defense of the INE
which will take place on November 13, at the proposal of businessman Claudio X. González.
