Avianca indefinitely suspends flight operations to and from Venezuela

Avianca suspensión vuelos Venezuela

Avianca said that it hopes that the connectivity situation towards Venezuela will evolve favorably to “resume operations as soon as conditions allow.” This airline offers three options to its passengers to change or refund the ticket

The Colombian airline Avianca announced this Friday, November 28, the suspension of “the sale and operation of flights to and from Venezuela”, after the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) of that country revoked the flight concession to six airlines.

«Following the decision of the INAC, Avianca informs that it suspended the sale and operation of flights to and from Venezuela. For the airline, the priority is and will always be the safety of passengers and collaborators,” the company said in a statement.

Faced with the situation, Avianca offers three options for its passengers:

  • Bogotá-Caracas-Bogotá customers, without connections: refund.
  • Bogotá-Caracas-Bogotá, with connections on the same ticket: refund of the segment from/to Caracas and the possibility of refund of the entire ticket.
  • The possibility of flying to or from Cúcuta with special conditions.

Avianca explains that these changes can be made through its web portal, mobile application, contact center, sales offices, airports and travel agencies.

The airline recalls that it has been operating to Venezuela for more than six decades and hopes that the connectivity situation to the country will evolve favorably to “resume operations as soon as conditions allow.”

The suspension of flights to Venezuela left thousands of Venezuelans and dozens of citizens of other nations stranded in different countries, as well as within the national territory; after the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) urged airlines to “exercise caution” when flying over the airspace of Venezuela and the southern Caribbean because it considers that there is “a potentially dangerous situation in the area.”

The National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) revoked the concession of six international airlines that it accuses of joining in “terrorist actions” promoted, according to the communication, by the United States government.

The airlines affected by the measure are: Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España SA, Transportes Aéreos Portugueses SA (TAP Portugal), Aerovías del Continente Americano SA (Avianca), Aerovías de Integración Regional SA (Latam Airlines Colombia), Turkish Airlines and GOL Linhas Aereas SA
