Concerned Javier Suarez, Director General of the National Service for Agricultural Health and Food Safety (Senasag), reported that the flu or avian influenza jumped from Cochabamba to Potosí.
Suárez explained that on Wednesday, March 1, it was confirmed that theThe disease reached the Potosí municipality of Cotagaita and that they would be backyard birds, which were transported in interdepartmental buses, evading Senasag controls.
“The birds were acquired in some area of Cochabamba and then take them to Potosí. To then make them reproduce. 15 birds have died, five due to the disease and the rest had to be sacrificed,” Suárez said.
The authority maintained that a search was carried out in the area and it was possible to verify that, there is no commercial production activity at the site. So it is an isolated case, which is already controlled.
Suárez recalled again that, due to the animal health emergency, the transport of birds in interdepartmental buses is prohibited or interprovincial and, those that go to the slaughterhouse, must have the respective movement guide.
About the situation of Cochabamba, explained that there are 22 confirmed outbreaks and that to date as a result of the disease and the controls more than 236,000 birds were culled.
The highest authority of Senasag indicated that vaccination began. He pointed out that, in principle, it two million vaccines were imported from Mexico (oily), which, for a week, are being used in 77 properties. The priority are the long-lived birds, such as layers egg and the breeders, that guarantee the supply of chicken meat.
