The undersecretary of Civil Protection of the Patagonian city, Patricia Díaz reported that the Argentine rescue team found this morning the lifeless bodies of the two Uruguayan tourists who had been missing since Tuesday, after a mud slide in a hotel in Bariloche.

“Once the bodies were extracted, they were referred to the local morgue to carry out the subsequent autopsy,” indicates the statement from the Argentine Public Ministry.

They are Alba González Giovanelli and her husband, Orlando Casella, two Uruguayan citizens who were direct relatives of Víctor González Giovanelli, 78, who had lost his life on the same Monday as the natural accident. In addition, her wife remains hospitalized after she was rescued from one of her rooms.

«The search work began at dawn. Today it was going to rain a lot, so the work strategy was changed. Under controlled risk, work began to remove the nearly 100 tons of mud that was inside the room. He did it in buckets, by hand. They worked for 9 hours until they reached the place where the two people were,” Díaz said in statements to the Argentine channel TN.

The two rooms where the three Uruguayan tourists were staying were contiguous and were the area of the hotel where the avalanche hit for the first time and with the greatest force. According to the undersecretary of Civil Protection, the complex itself will be unusable for a long period of time. Because the enormous amount of mud that hit the establishment in a matter of seconds severely damaged many structures of the building.
