Avaí shows strength to defeat Guarani and become leader of Series B

Avaí took the lead in Series B of the Brazilian Championship after defeating Guarani 3-2, on Friday night (14) at the Ressacada stadium, in Florianópolis (Santa Catarina). The match was broadcast live from TV Brasil.

Thanks to the three points achieved in the 9th round of the competition, Leão da Ilha reached a total of 20. But to remain at the top of the table until the end of the round, the team from Santa Catarina will have to support the vice-leader América-MG (which has 18 points and still faces CRB), against Goiás (which has 17 points and still plays with Coritiba) and Mirassol (which also has 17 points and faces Sport). For Bugre, the setback meant they remained in the bottom spot with four points.

Despite playing at home, Avaí saw Guarani open the scoring in the 9th minute of the first half, when Airton took advantage of a rebound given by goalkeeper César on a shot by João Victor to send it into the back of the net. However, ten minutes later Hygor equalized the score. The confrontation remained open and, even before the break, Bugre took the lead again, thanks to a goal from a penalty kick by Caio Dantas in the 27th minute.

After the break, Avaí managed to impose itself on the opponent and scored twice to guarantee the final victory, thanks to goals from Hygor, in the second minute, and João Paulo, in the 16th. Leão still had one man less in the minutes finals, after the expulsion of William Pottker. But the team from Santa Catarina showed strength to hold on to the result and the leadership of Series B.

Defeat of the Fish

Those who had a day to forget were Santos, who lost 1-0 to Operário-PR at the Germano Krüger stadium, in Ponta Grossa (Paraná). This is the fourth consecutive setback in the Peixe competition, which now occupies 6th place with 15 points. Fantasma occupies 3rd place with 18 points. The only goal of the match played this Friday came from the feet of defender William Machado.
