Just like the rival Figueirense, Avaí also qualified for the second phase of the Copa do Brasil. This Tuesday (22), Leão da Ilha held the 1-1 with URT at the Zama Maciel stadium, in Patos de Minas (MG), benefiting from the competition’s regulation, which gives the best-placed team in the ranking of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) the advantage of the tie in the clashes of the first phase.
The opponent of Santa Catarina in the sequence of the tournament will come out of the duel between Ceilândia and Londrina, who will play on Wednesday of next week (2), at 15:30 (Brasília time), at the Maria de Lourdes Abadia stadium (Abadião), in Ceilândia ( DF).
With the classification, Avaí collected R$ 750 thousand in prize money. The club had already received BRL 620,000 for participating in the Copa do Brasil, as well as URT.

The first half was under pressure from URT, who stopped twice in defenses by Douglas Friedrich. In the 24th minute, the goalkeeper saved, in the reflex, the header of Daniel Passiara. At 35, shirt 1 stretched to block the kick of fellow striker Iago Martins. Acting on the counterattack, Avaí startled in the 45th minute, with a kick by forward Muriqui, after a deflection by goalkeeper Gustavo Silva, who hit the crossbar.
The miners continued to be more present in the offensive field at the return of the interval, but it was the visitors who opened the scoring, with Muriqui, in the 24th minute, in a hit from the edge of the area. The ball again touched Gustavo Silva, but this time it landed in the nets. URT’s answer came at 37 minutes. Forward Cebolinha invaded the area on the left, won the mark and finished off Douglas Friedrich.
In the stoppage time of the final stage, Vinícius Leite, from Avaí, hit his head after clashing with fellow midfielder Gindré, from URT. The player left the lawn on a stretcher, immobilized, but talking to the rescuers, taken to one of the ambulances on standby at the stadium. After the stoppage, the hosts put pressure behind the comeback, but Douglas Friedrich secured the tie and the Avaiana classification.
The first phase of the Copa do Brasil brings together 80 teams. Of them, 20 will reach the third phase, which will include the clubs involved with Libertadores (América-MG, Athletico-PR, Atlético-MG, Red Bull Bragantino, Corinthians, Flamengo, Fluminense, Fortaleza and Palmeiras) and the champions of Série B ( Botafogo) and the Copa do Nordeste (Bahia) and Verde (Remo) in 2021. Even from the third phase onwards, the clashes will have round-trip matches.
