Automotive industry in Panama reflects a growth of 63%

The Executive Director of the Association of Automobile Dealers of Panama (ADAP), Patricia Vukelja, provided a balance on the movement of the automotive industry in recent months.

He explained that last year was a different year for many sectors due to the pandemic, and the automotive sector did not escape from it, since they were completely closed for almost six months, however, to date, he stressed that they have had a recovery much more positive than expected, which helps to understand that there is demand and people continue to invest in the purchase of cars.

“We are talking between November, the first 11 months of the year there is a growth of 63% coming from a year of great decline. This analysis is buying November 2019, there if there is a decrease because prior to the pandemic there was three years of growth of 28%, so if we compare 2019 to 2021 we are a little below, about 23% ” , he detailed.

He said that the sector faces a new challenge and it is the issue of inventory. “There is a semiconductor shortage that they use not only for cars, but they use it for many other products, but cars have been affected,” he added.

Vukelja also stated that the issue of supply and demand is one of the consequences or conditions that could arise at the level of adjustments, because it is an import market and item that are most affected.
