The Automotive industry it grew 4.82% in 2022 compared to the previous year, reported the Automotive Association of Peru (AAP).
“Automotive activity expanded thanks to increased sales of vehicles such as SUVs, Pick Up trucks and vans, as well as heavy vehicles such as minibuses, buses and tractor-trailers,” reported the business association.
The higher sales responded to various factors such as advertising strategies, increased activity in economic sectors with an emphasis on the transportation sector, and the sale of pre-owned units.
This panorama was accompanied by a greater dynamism of activities such as the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, due to the demand of economic sectors for repair, washing and disinfection services.
Despite this, a drop was observed in the sale of parts, pieces and accessories for motor vehicles due to lower imports, higher prices and freight.
The union highlighted that for this year they anticipate that the conflict could be a factor that affects the performance of sales.
“For this year, the AAP expects that national production would have a lower growth than that observed in 2022. In addition to a serious downward bias due to various factors that were not within the expectations radar a few months ago. Among them is the increase in social conflict in a large part of the country, mainly in southern Peru, which has been affecting the normal functioning of various economic activities, ”he reported.
