On Friday, physical and verbal attacks were registered against residents of the Republic of Salvador for celebrations not authorized by the Quito Festivities.
The Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) It is estimated that about 7,000 people gathered on the night of Friday 3 and early in the morning of Saturday 4 December 2021 in the vicinity of the Tribuna de los Shyris, in the north of Quito.
The supervisor of the AMC, Jaime Villacrés, indicated that there were excesses, attacks on residents of the sector and illegal sale of liquor by those who concentrated at that point. The authorities seized in the surroundings 350 liters of liquor, plastic containers to store liquor, industrial kitchens and hoses. Everything was used to prepare ‘canelazos’ in an informal way.
Villacrés accepted that the authorities were surprised by the number of people who turned out. They had prepared a control operation that included fences in the middle of the parterre to prevent vehicles from parking and to control that people who do not drink in public spaces. The control was insufficient.

That is why this Saturday decided to fence the entire avenue, Los Shyris, at the height of the Tribuna, and limit the passage of people and vehicles. Priority will be given to residents who live in the sector, including residents of the Republic of Salvador. The specific actions will be announced after 15:30 when a unified command post (PMU) is installed in the La Carolina park.
The intention is to coordinate the actions of the National Police, AMC, the Metropolitan Transit Agency and to evict the groups that gather at the Los Shyris Tribune and other parts of the city.
Villacreses confirmed to this newspaper that on Friday night and early Saturday there were people arrested for disturbing public order. He did not detail the number. The Police used tear gas canisters on two occasions to dislodge the crowd that gathered without respecting social distancing and biosecurity measures, including the obligation to wear a mask.
The Mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas, asked for the collaboration of the public to avoid suspension of events in the Quito festivities.

The Police are working to issue a report on the agglomerations and fights registered in this sector of the north of Quito.
Alcohol, loud music, thousands of young people on foot and in cars and street brawls were registered in the surroundings of the Los Shyris Tribune, in the north of Quito.
