Authorities will investigate allegations that Haitian women in labor are deported from hospitals

As a result of the complaints that have arisen that Immigration authorities deported the Haitian women in labor From the hospitals, the Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, reported this Friday that an investigation will be opened to determine the veracity of this.

The official said that the Ministry of Public Health will be vigilant in this type of situation after revealing that a large number of immigrants arrive at the country’s hospitals on weekends.

“We are going to be vigilant because there is a coincidence, it is from yesterday and today that they begin. Immigrants who come always increase on weekends. So, we are going to monitor that part because, as the President of the Republic said, if there is a delivery, then let the delivery take place. We are going to monitor that this provision is being complied with, ”said Rivera.

The head of Public Health questioned that of every 100 births that occur in the country, 40 are from foreign mothers, a situation that he said reduces the space for Dominican women who need to be admitted to a center.

“That is the installed capacity that we have and I myself presented to you that how it is going to be that a few days ago we were heading for 40%. In other words, out of every 100 deliveries, 40 were foreigners and we arrived at the occupation in hospitals with the case of Valverde Mao, in the case of Santiago, with the case of La Altagracia, which from 60 to 65 percent rose to 70. So, they have to think that there are Dominican women in labor who no longer have the space ”, he specified at the National Palace prior to his participation in the ceremony for the delivery of the National Quality Award in Public Administration.

In this regard, the Minister of the Interior and Police and president of the National Migration Council, Jesús Vásquez, recalled that Haitian women in labor occupy at least 30 percent of the beds in hospitals and affirmed that the Dominican Republic is not capable of assuming the great medical cost this means for the country.
