The new fiscal petition addressed to Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez García is four years in prison for the alleged crime of attack.
Havana, Cuba. – The new trial against the activist and political prison Cubanetthe activist’s mother, Nilda García Fleitas.
According to the woman, the view is scheduled to be held on September 15 at the Provincial Court of Pinar del Río.
García Fleitas also explained that “in recent days” his son received the new fiscal request of four years in prison for the alleged crime of attack. This is a major criminal figure with respect to that announced by the prison authorities last June: contempt.
The woman also listed another series of reprisals perpetrated by the uniformed against her family. He mentioned that his son’s family visit has been arbitrarily suspended and without warning at least twice, one of them corresponding to July 4. As part of the punishment on those occasions they have not allowed him to pass food for the political prisoner.
García Fleitas also denounced the constant harassment of leaders and state security agents: to the activist’s wife, Yuli Castillo Medina, on more than one occasion they have threatened to imprison her and take away the parental authority of the son of both, of 11 months of age.
Those threats, said the source, have been issued in the presence of the Chief of Attention to Minors of the Municipality of the South. This official has also accompanied political police officers who have appeared at home to threaten her to take her other granddaughter under her care, from a daughter who emigrated to the United States, if they continue to denounce and protest the violations committed against Rodríguez García.
Until the moment of his apprehension, the 35 -year -old political prisoner worked as a peasant in the Municipality of the South, Pinar del Río. He has been imprisoned since August 3, 2016 in retaliation for his activism with the opposition organization of Pinareña Democratic Alliance, chaired by the political activist and expreasing of the Group of 75 Eduardo Díaz Fleitas. Initially, he was sentenced to eight years of deprivation of liberty for the crimes of alteration of the order, contempt, attack and defamation of the heroes and martyrs as punishment for writing posters against the government, transmitting directly against Raúl Castro, resist the arrest and affirm that Fidel Castro had been a dictator.
On January 14 of this year, even in the context of the releases announced by the regime of the island, the progression to a minimum severity regime was revoked (it was in a forced labor camp called Epam Unit in Pinar del Río) in retaliation for refusing to sign a commitment not to participate in political or public activities as a requirement to receive probation.
In October 2021, the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary protection measures to Rodríguez Garcíaconsidering that he was in a situation of gravity and urgency of risk of irreparable damage to his rights.
