Authorities rescue Luisa Ozema Pellerano Park

Santo Domingo, DN – The Mayor’s Office of the National District, in collaboration with Grupo Mallén and Supermercados Nacional, inaugurated the Luisa Ozema Pellerano Park, a space that the community had requested for more than 40 years.

Located on Paseo de los Profesores street in the Mirador Sur sector, the park has approximately 5,000 square meters for the recreation and well-being of residents and their pets, as it includes an exclusive area with games for animals, promoting a friendly and accessible environment.

During the keynote address of the event, Mayor Carolina Mejía welcomed the investment made by Grupo Mallén and Supermercados Nacional, highlighting the social responsibility they have assumed.

“I want to emphasize that everyone who comes here does so with the understanding that they have a responsibility: first, to enjoy it; but second, to comply with the rules that exist here,” said Mejía.

Executives from both companies highlighted the pride they feel in having contributed to the transformation of the park into a space truly suitable for the enjoyment of visitors.

Madelyn Martínez, Vice President of Marketing and Financial Retail at Centro Cuesta Nacional, considered the idea of an alliance between the mayor’s office and the private sector to be excellent, since it unites a genuine interest in bringing well-being to the people.

Maité Mallén thanked Carolina Mejía for believing in the pet inclusion project. She indicated that thanks to this alliance with the Mayor’s Office of the National District, five dog areas have been opened in city parks.

Artist Ana Mederos, author of the mural located on the park’s exterior wall in honor of teacher Luisa Ozema Pellerano, explained that her work highlights symbols of the teacher’s efforts in favor of Dominican sovereignty and her commitment to the preservation of nature, highlighting her legacy to education.

Refurbishment

The new space includes a perimeter fence and lighting to ensure the safety of visitors, as well as new internal paths and sidewalks.

The council also created a hiking trail and an area dedicated to activities such as yoga, pilates and zumba.

The sports facilities were modernized, with a court that allows for the practice of basketball and volleyball. The children’s area was also renovated and picnic tables and benches were added for the enjoyment of attendees.

With this inauguration, Mayor Carolina Mejía reaffirms her commitment to work in alliance with the private sector, where through the Parks for All program she has recovered and renovated 180 parks and plazas, with the participation of the community being key to its proper functioning.
