The Mayor’s Office of Bogotá reported in the last few hours that activated protection routes for four minors from the Emberá Katío community, who were victims of alleged abuse in the Comprehensive Protection Unit, UPI, La Rioja.
According to the District, upon learning of the incident, these specific routes were launched to care for minors, with the collaboration of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare and the Childhood and Adolescence Police.

“The four children are in the care of the authorities and are being evaluated at the Santa Clara hospital.; It is important to highlight that three of the minors, aged 10, 13 and 14 (siblings) state that their parents have been out of Bogotá for two months,” said Isabelita Mercado, counselor for Victims, Peace and Reconciliation of Bogotá.
Furthermore, he explained that the actions necessary to present the complaint to the Attorney General’s Office.
“The Mayor’s Office will not tolerate any more abuses or violations of the rights of minors, who are subjects of special constitutional protection,” he emphasized.
The official added that Spaces for dialogue are being held with Emberá leaders at the UPI and that a strategy has been implemented for minors at the Amar Center, which offers a social offer for children of Social Integration.
“These actions are carried out to find measures that strengthen the institutional presence in said settlement, as was done in the National Park and in UPI La Florida, in order to prevent risks and violations of human rights,” Mercado concluded.
