This Thursday in Chile is a holiday for the commemoration of the Day of the Immaculate Conception. On this holiday, thousands of pilgrims come to the Sanctuary of Lo Vásquez, as well as the celebration of masses around the country.
In advance of the long pilgrimage that people make to the place, it was taken as a precaution to cut a section of Route 68 from 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday until 08:00 a.m. this Thursday. Likewise, Carabineros disputed troops around the route to provide the necessary services.
Balance
The colonel and prefect of the Carabineros Traffic and Highways, Emilio Teixidor, delivered this Thursday a preliminary balance on the state of the route and the services deployed during this day. Teixidor pointed out that there have been no major problems, despite the high traffic of pilgrims and more than 15,000 cyclists. “Fortunately there was no misfortune to regret,” he said in Third.
When addressing the assistance of pilgrims to Lo Vásquez, the prefect estimated it at close to a million people, in addition to specifying that there are still a large number of people in the sector.
Despite the high turnout, Teixedor highlighted the attitude that people have had, since they have not had to regret serious events because they have complied with the rules that the institution has indicated.
Transit
The police authority specified that traffic will function normally between Valparaíso and Santiago until 8:30 p.m. when the diversions begin at the Casa Blanca link towards the fifth region, while vehicles heading to the Metropolitan region will suffer diversions in Lo Orozco sector.
Likewise, he called for caution, since traffic will be slower due to the high number of people who will begin to withdraw from the place.
