A total of 14 children, at ages between 9 and 14, were admitted on Tuesday, the Popular Clinic Alfredo Machado and the Rafael Medina Jiménez de Pariata hospital when presenting symptoms of poisoning for allegedly consuming gummies, marks vitamin mints.
According to the first investigations, the minors studied at the Rafael Urdaneta school in the La Esperanza IV sector, in Carayaca. They ingested the gomites during recess after a classmate were supplied. It was determined that the product was delivered to the minor by its grandfather, identified as José Manuel Cambero (63), who resides in the same sector and works in the maintenance area of Maiquetía International Airport.
Given the situation, Citizen Security, the Guaira Police and the Corps of Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations (CICPC) were deployed to clarify the facts.
The Governor of the State of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán, informed that nine of the children were treated at the Alfredo Machado Popular Clinic and two at the Rafael Medina Jiménez hospital, where they received medical evaluation. Nine were discharged and four continue under observation, although they are stable.
“Fortunately, it did not happen to adults, but this ignites an alarm. Our security forces are deployed by the corresponding investigation, ”said the governor. In addition, he stressed that the grandfather already surrendered the treats and that the authorities continue with the investigations to determine the origin and effects of the product.
“We receive the orientations of our Minister Diosdado Cabello Rondón to deploy and guarantee the lives of all these children. Do not be alarmed, because everything is under control, ”said Terán.
