Santo Domingo.- The authorities dealt the first blow of 2025 to drug trafficking with the seizure of 766 packages of cocaine, during a joint effort carried out on the coasts of the province of Pedernales.
Through a deployment by air, sea and land, agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), members of the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD), the Air Force (FARD) and Army personnel (ERD), Coordinated by the Public Ministry, they began an operation to catch several men, who on board a speedboat had the intention of introducing an undetermined amount of drugs into Dominican territory.
The individuals, upon noticing the presence of the authorities, accelerated the speed of the boat, which ran aground near the shores of Laguna de Oviedo, and then the crew entered a wooded area.
Subsequently, an extensive search and tracking operation was initiated with Air Force helicopters, reaction teams from the DNCD, the Navy and the Army, managing to arrest six men (four Dominicans and two Haitians) and locate 26 bags among some bushes, containing the 766 packages inside.
The detainees were identified by the judicial authorities as Alejandro Féliz Terrero, Lionan Santana Féliz, Onil David Cuevas Pujols, Yonathan Manuel Urbáez, Manuel Abela Thezard and Stanlei Pie.
In the intervention, a Colt model M-16 rifle, caliber 5.56, a 28-foot long boat, with two outboard motors of 250 horsepower each and 15 jugs of fuel, among other evidence, were also seized.
