PEDERNALES.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), with the assistance of intelligence agencies, detected an alleged mafia of supposed workers in the construction of hotels in Cabo Rojo, dedicated to trafficking illegal persons.
Authorities have detected 24 Haitian illegals, who are being traded with buscones via the town of Anse-au-Pitre, near Pedernales, as alleged employees of construction companies in Cabo Rojo.
The DGM coordinator, Nibelin Novas, said that the area will be kept under close surveillance to prevent the crossing and trafficking of criminals fleeing Kenyan persecution in Haiti.
The alleged workers showed banners from one of the companies that build hotels and the cruise ship dock in Cabo Rojo, which they then allegedly traveled to other parts of the country.
These alleged construction workers have also been found to be carrying illegal firearms, and it is believed that they are members of gangs from the neighboring country that are trying to enter the Dominican Republic through this border.
