Authorities detain three people for the outbreak of meningitis in Durango

The anesthesiologist is accused of having used medications that were not assigned by the hospitals, which goes against the Official Mexican Standards and the General Health Law.

“In the files it is determined that the doctor brought his own medication for blocking, it is presumed that said medications acquired contamination in the first hospital (Hospital del Parque) or were mixed with already contaminated medications,” said the state prosecutor.

The other two detainees are accused of improper exercise of public service and homicide.

“The former owner of Coprised agreed to close the verification procedure, even though there were some observations, for which he breached his duty to guarantee health, since having issued the observations, the serious health crisis caused by a fungus could have been avoided. that causes meningitis,” said the authority.

Meningitis is inflammation of the membranes (meninges) that surround the brain and spinal cord.

In the case of fungal meningitis, “it can occur after a fungal infection spreads from somewhere in the body to the brain or spinal cord,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (CDC) of the United States.
