The suspension of supply will begin at 3:00 p.m. on October 12 and will last until 6:00 a.m. on October 13.
This cut is due to a modification of the drinking water distribution network to make way for the construction of the new line 7 of the Santiago Metro.
“The works to modify the drinking water distribution network in the Plaza Baquedano sector that we are reporting today together with the Superintendency of Sanitary Services, ONEMI and the company Aguas Andinas are necessary so that Metro can advance in the previous works of the excavation stage of the future Line 7 in that area.
This new Metro line will be 26 kilometers long and have 19 stations, benefiting an estimated population of 1,569,000 inhabitants from a total of seven communes in the Metropolitan Region, of which Renca, Cerro Navia and Vitacura are incorporated for the first time to our network,” he said. Ximena SchultzManager of the Santiago Metro Projects Division.
The affected perimeter will include the Av. Costanera Sur and Av. Santa María to the north, Amunátegui and Zenteno to the east; Santa Isabel, Domeyko, Arica, Av. Gladys Marín (Pajaritos), Av. Los Mares and Camino Casas Viejas to the south; and Lanalhue, Ventisquero, El Tranque, Bravo Luco, San Pedro and Laguna Sur to the west.
To face this cut, the SISS has supervised the contingency plan of Aguas Andinas, in coordination with the respective municipalities, establishing 96 distribution points of drinking water for the neighbors.
The supervision of the Superintendence of Sanitary Services (SISS) will not be limited only to reviewing the mitigation measures instructed to the sanitation company associated with the deployment of its alternative supply plan, but also to the control of the timely development of the works and replenishment of the supply. at the agreed times.
“Along with this, as SISS we have been reporting the situation to the ONEMI, SEREMI of Health and the Ministry of Public Works to work together in the coordination of procedures in relation to the alternative supply of drinking water, ensuring the delivery of the community service. In this line, we have instructed the water company to maintain close coordination with critical clients, that is, health care centers, educational centers, among other sensitive clients, as well as intensive coordination with the authorities of the territory”, affirmed the Superintendent Jorge Rivas.
In turn, he recommended that citizens collect water in moderation, around 15 liters per person at most.
The Onemi Regional Director, Miguel Muñoz stated that “as soon as we were aware of the situation, a coordination meeting was called with the Municipalities involved, Health (Hospitals, CESFAM, ELEAM among others), Firefighters, SISS and ONEMI, In the meeting, the drinking water supply points were verified with the Municipalities, and the critical health infrastructure that must be supplied by the company was reviewed, special emphasis was given to the case of supplying Firefighters in emergency situations.
Given this, he said that a new meeting will be held today, Friday, October 7, to incorporate the representatives of the SEREMI of Education and Labor, and the last coordinations prior to the court will be given.
For his part, the director of Clients of Aguas Andinas, Eugenio Rodríguez, pointed out that “at Aguas Andinas we are always available to collaborate with other sectors and carry out relevant projects that contribute to the quality of life of the inhabitants of Santiago. These works consider transferring an important source of drinking water to allow the construction of a shaft for the new line 7 of the Metro and for this we must work on our underground network and temporarily suspend the service. These works and their dates have been agreed and planned in advance with the authorities and communicated with due anticipation, seeking to impact the community as little as possible, which is why they will also be carried out at times of lower consumption, ”he specified.
