The events for which he was tried and convicted occurred at the end of 2022, in the vicinity of 114th Street, between Autopista and the José Antonio Echeverría University City (CUJAE), municipality of Marianao. He used a bladed weapon.
The man stole a 1000 AVA brand motorcycle, in addition to money, cell phone and other belongings, for which reason the corresponding complaint was filed and the defendant was arrested and instructed for each of these continuous events, taking into account the dangerousness and significance they had for the victims, notes the Havana Government website.
In the same way, the defendant must repair the material damage caused with the amount of about two million pesos, through the Compensation Fund of the Ministry of Justice.
publisher of Granma
This announcement was made known hours after the official newspaper Granma -voice of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) published a unusual editorialwhere he stressed that “There is no passivity or impunity” in the face of violent acts, and that these represent 8.5% of the total number of illegal acts registered during the year in the country.
Six out of ten violent crimes in Cuba have ended with people arrested and charged so far this year, reports the editorial, which does not specify the number of total crimes so far in 2023 or contrast them with those of the same period of the previous year. . Nor does it specify whether the charges resulted in convictions.
The editorial stresses that 11,500 “actions to prevent and confront crime” have led to the arrest of “more than 12,000 people.”
It also highlights that in the case of crimes where “people are killed or firearms are used” there are more than 90% in the “clarification levels”, without specifying whether they are convictions or charges.
Similarly, the newspaper reported that this year there have been 2,400 people “involved” in crimes against livestock (in reference to theft and slaughter) and that the number of incarcerations for this type of crime has doubled.
“Instability scenario”
In Cuba there is no public and periodic data on crime -especially with violence- and this type of news appears sporadically in the official media or in communiqués from the Ministry of the Interior (Minint).
The independent media in Cuba, as well as the social networks, have reported in recent months different criminal acts such as robberies with violence.
Granma assures that these types of cases are “shamelessly magnified or manipulated by enemy digital sites” and ensures that “the fabrication, from virtual space, of an alleged scenario of instability, mistrust and insecurity is increasingly a priority in the subversive plans of the enemy”.
Two assailants with firearms are arrested in Havana in an illegal currency exchange operation
Cuba is going through a deep economic crisis due to the combination of the consequences of the pandemic, the tightening of US sanctions and the errors in economic and monetary policy.
The situation is evident in a serious shortage of basic products -food, medicine and fuel- and in inflation that has doubled prices in 24 months in the formal market.
