MADRID, Spain.- Aurora Pita, born in Galicia, Spain, in 1936, fleeing the Spanish Civil War when she was only five months old, emigrated with her family to Cuba, where from a very young age she dedicated herself to acting and became a one of the actresses most loved by Cubans.
Among the various characters she played for the island’s television, of which she was the founder, are Doña Gertrudis de Sandoval, in the telenovela batey sun (1985) and the Galician Catalina, in the telenovela Next year (1994). In 1952 she was selected by the CARTV publication as the new artist.
For the radio, which was where he began his career, his performance in the spaces Estudio 4, Lto Novel of the two and Your Love Novel; but the character that gave him the most popularity was that of Purita, in the humorous to laugh fast, in the 50s; and in which he shared space with Guillermo Alvarez GuedesEdwin Fernández and Minin Bujones.
On the big screen he appeared, among others, in the series of short films crematoriadirected by Juan Carlos Cremata and in The Big Boodle (The bribery gang1957), a film directed by Richard Wilson and starring Errol Flynn.
While in the theater, among others, he took part in The importance of being called Ernestoby Oscar Wilde.
He also left his mark on the children’s audience, starring in the adventures The Vikings and Enrique Lagardere.
Recognized as one of the “ladies of television”, and winner of the CARICATO award on numerous occasions, Aurora Pita died in Havana on May 7, 2021, at the age of 85.
