AUN exiles meet with high-ranking US official

Political prisoners released and exiled by the Ortega y Murillo regime, Lesther Alemán, Mildred Rayo and Yubrank Suazo, met with Brian Nichols, US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs.

According to the Nicaraguan University Alliance (AUN), the young people and the North American official talked about the serious human rights crisis in Nicaragua and the need to democratize the Central American nation.

Alemán, Suazo and Rayo are part of the 222 political prisoners who were sent into exile in the United States on February 9. Along with this forced exile, their Nicaraguan nationality was also taken from them.

«We spoke with @WHAAsstSecty (Brian Nichols) about the US commitment to Nicaragua, especially the role of youth in the democratization of the country. Until we achieve justice, democracy and freedom for Nicaragua, we will not rest, “wrote Lesther Alemán on his Twitter account.

AUN pointed out in its social network profile that the democratization of Nicaragua is essential so that “we can live in freedom, justice and progress.” According to Alemán, the United States “ratifies its commitment to the multiple and serious violations of human rights in Nicaragua, and the need for the country to achieve justice and a stable and lasting democracy.”

For his part, the leader of Masaya, Yubrank Suazo, said in his social network account that the commitment to the freedom of Nicaragua and the return of democracy is real.

«Until the last breath to achieve a fair, free and democratic Nicaragua. We will not give up, the dictatorship will not be able to break us,” Max Jerez, another of those exiled to the United States and a member of the AUN, wrote on Twitter.
