Augusto Ferrero: "We want to express our concern about the growing tension and polarization that we have experienced for several years"

The brand new president of the Constitutional Court (TC), Augusto Ferrero Costa, expressed his concern about the polarization situation that the country has been experiencing for several years and asked that the problems be solved by putting dialogue before confrontation.

During his inauguration speech, after taking over as head of the TC, Ferrero Costa recalled that Peru has already overcome adversaries opposed to freedom and democracy.

“We wish to express our concern about the growing tension and polarization that we have experienced for several years. Crispation that is not the best to overcome the problems and discrepancies in a country with millenary history, where great adversaries of freedom and the dignity of the person have been defeated “, he asserted.

“The way to solve problems must be in the search for dialogue, learning to listen to ourselves, reason and reflect and base our points of view to respect everyone”, He said.

Along these lines, he recalled that all actions must be in accordance with the Constitution, which, he explained, has mechanisms to modernize itself, as has already been done in its 28 years of validity.

“Always in respect of the political constitution that has been in force for 28 years and that has its own mechanisms for its improvement in a world of accelerated transformations”, He said.

Finally, Ferrero Costa sent a message to Congress, that they are in charge of the appointment of six new members of the TC, since the same number of current magistrates have expired.

“We hope that it will serve as a lesson to the Congress that has to elect six of its members when [su padre Raúl Ferrero] wrote that the members of the TC have to be chosen by jurists with high ethical tension, integrate an elite that is only reached by tradition of culture and by incessant detachment “, he stated.

In the same way, in the formal act, justices José Luis Sardón de Taboada were sworn in as vice president, and Marianella Ledesma Narváez as general director of the Center for Constitutional Studies (CEC).

Also participating in the ceremony were President Pedro Castillo, the head of the Congress, María del Carmen Alva; and the highest authority of the Judicial Power, Elva Barrios.
