August 2025 was the most violent month in Peru, with 209 homicides, the highest figure of the year according to the National Computer System of Deaths (SINADEF).
This number exceeded those of July and June, consolidating an ascending trend in cases of murders in the country. In total, Between January and August, 1,513 homicides were counted, of which 550 occurred in Lima, main focus of violence.
The Sinadef also reported a worrying increase in homicides of minors, with 67 cases between children and adolescents until August, the highest figure since 2017 for that period. Since the arrival of President Dina Boluarte, more than 4,400 homicides have been recorded, with a constant rebound in urban areas of high conflict.
In response to the increase in insecurity, the Government enabled Central 111 of the National Police, a free and confidential service that allows reporting extortion and other crimes 24 hours a day, along with other lines of attention. Insecurity has also increased in the regions of the north and south of the country, linked to criminal disputes.
With accumulated figures, it is projected that 2025 could exceed the levels of violence registered in 2024, generating alarm especially for its impact on children and adolescents and evidencing the need to intensify actions to combat violence.
