August 1st and 10th will be holidays in Managua, for Santo Domingo festivities

The Ministry of Labor reported that on the occasion of the festivities of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, August 1 and 10 will be paid holidays for all workers in the municipality of Managua. This provision is not a new regulation, since it is stipulated in the Labor Code.

“In accordance with the provisions of article 67 of the Labor Code, Monday the first and Wednesday the tenth of August of the current year are declared paid holidays for all workers who work exclusively in the Municipality of Managua…” specifies the statement, signed by the Minister of Labor Alba Luz Torres Briones.

It adds that “those tasks that by their nature cannot be interrupted in accordance with article 69 of the Labor Code and that may affect the country’s economic, social and security activities are excepted.”

It also clarifies that the days indicated are the only holidays, “so workers must return to their regular work on Tuesday, August 2 and Thursday 11 of the current year.”

First and August 10 will be a holiday in Managua for patron saint festivities

For her part, the deputy dictator of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, in her speech this Tuesday, July 26, anticipated the statement. “So, good news, Commander Daniel —Ortega— has accepted the proposal of the Minister of Labor and we will be partying, we are partying.”

“The biggest party is the party of peace, of harmony, of the good life, of life with joy in our Nicaragua, which is work for enjoyment, for peace and good,” stressed the regime’s spokeswoman of Ortega.

This year, as has happened in the last celebrations for the “patron saint” of Managua, the Mayor’s Office has set up its own activities, without taking into account the Catholic Church, which has not taken the image due to the pandemic of the COVID-19. The commune has already elected the mayor Reyna Rueda as mayordoma of the festivities, in the midst of government attacks against bishops and Catholic priests, who in past times lead the patron saint festivities of the capital together with the building authorities. It is unknown if it will be the same now.
