After some carriers from La Chorrera, in West Panama, indicated that they would increase the fare on some routes in this district starting this week, the director of the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT), Carlos Ordóñez, assured that this is not legal, since there is no law or decree that provides for it.
“There are laws, there are decrees that establish how you can make an increase in the user’s fare, before us there is no formal request presented by the routes of La Chorrera, therefore we cannot speak that the increase that they are talking about, At this time, it is legal, they have not complied with the procedure, that is not endorsed by the Land Transit and Transportation Authority, therefore we cannot collect this if it does not go through this procedure,” he assured.
However, some carriers indicated that the increase in some routes was agreed upon by the users, after a meeting with them, and that said agreement was submitted to the ATTT.
Ordóñez noted that this Friday the leaders of the National Chamber of Transportation (Canatra) and the Interior Transportation Council (Cotradin) will present their proposal to the transportation technical table to be analyzed by the entities present in this discussion, which must evaluate the proposals. passenger increase or other options that arise.
