Chang quoted Elio Riera, who said that “his client will not accept effective collaboration because he is sponsored, says he is innocent and will not accept committing any crime.”
“I see it as a very complicated strategy to sustain because there are many elements that have been presented and that he will have to explain. Rather, it seems to me that the prosecutor Alcides Chinchay has told him ‘I am not interested in your effective collaboration’,” Chang said.
He added that this impression is based on everything that Andrés Hurtado has been saying, as he would not appear to be a trustworthy person, since he has been found to have lied constantly. “He is a person where the mouth of a liar makes the truth doubtful,” he said.
“The prosecutor probably said ‘what do I gain by accepting this collaboration?’. At this point, this is heading very much towards pretrial detention,” he concluded.

During her program ‘Sin guion’, journalist RMP stated that she sees it as difficult for the judge to grant Andrés Hurtado the benefit of effective collaborator.
“Telling the truth can end up being extremely complicated, not because everything you have done is criminal, (…) but because you need to provide real, true, verifiable information, which establishes that you are effectively in a criminal organization where there are assigned roles where there is a group of people who participate in an illicit activity and that you know that illicit activity in detail,” he said.
He added that it is not very certain that Hurtado knows more than what he has already said so far, so it would not be of much help to the judge to have his testimony.
