The group of prosecutors who were sent on vacation after the revelations of the protected witness “Euro 14” that they pressured him to link members of the government of former President Ricardo Martinelli, remain without returning to their positions, said the attorney general in charge, Javier Caraballo.
He indicated that the investigation into this case is well advanced, “with firm steps” and as it progresses, a decision will be made to cease the vacations or extend them.
Among the prosecutors sent on vacation for this issue are: Tania Sterling, Ruth Morcillo, Adecio Mojica, Nahaniel Murgas and Zuleyka Moore.
At the time, Caraballo indicated that while the vacations last, in the case of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, Anilú Batista Carles will be in the position of Ruth Morcillo, prosecutor Edwin Juárez will be in the position of Adecio Mojica, and Zuleyka Moore will be in the position William Granados will be there.
“In the face of the complaint filed, we have to act transparently as required by law. This transparency was what led us to make the administrative decision to send these prosecutors on vacation, without this implying an advance in criteria with respect to to the criminal investigation,” he said.
He explained that an investigation is carried out by the Attorney General’s Office given the hierarchy of the defendants (prosecutors), however, given that there are some defendants who do not have that category of officials of a certain hierarchy, it would remain in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. This being one of the reasons to send them on vacation.
It should be remembered that the former Minister of Education, Lucy Molinar, requested to investigate the aforementioned prosecutors, as well as Rolando López, Jacinto Gómez and Kenya Porcell, indicated by “Euro 14” as the people who forced and offered perks in exchange for mentioning her her and other people in several files related to the PAN case.
