Attorney General remained silent during fiscal questioning of Pedro Castillo

The attitude of Attorney General María Caruajulca is far from that of her predecessor in office, the ousted Daniel Soria. While Soria denounced President Pedro Castillo For hiding information about his visits to Breña’s house – a fact that earned him his dismissal – Caruajulca remained silent during the fiscal interrogation to which the president submitted on June 17. She did not ask Castillo any questions about the serious acts he is accused of, according to sources in this newspaper.

“The Attorney General’s Office has lost autonomy,” a source from that sector told Peru21. What the workers of that entity notice is that María Caruajulca, appointed to the position on February 25 of this year, only responds to the needs of the Castillo Government; she does not defend the interests of the State, as required by law. A sample is what happened in the aforementioned tax diligence. But there is more.

The lawyer has blocked the Implementation Plan of the State Attorney General’s Office (PGE), which seeks the independence of all attorney general’s offices at the national level, by eliminating the technical team in charge of that mission. She ordered it through resolution 138-2022-PGE / PG issued on June 8.

It was the opportunity for the attorney general’s offices to be under the administration of the PGE and no longer depend on the municipalities and regional governments. Currently, in the provinces, attorneys are appointed by governors and mayors, which limits the real control of their efforts.

Another concern in the PGE is the presence of the anti-corruption prosecutor Javier Pacheco. According to informants, the dismissals of personnel and drastic changes ordered by Caruajulca take place after the meetings he has held in his office with Pacheco.

The sources indicated that Pacheco had appointments with the prosecutor during the first half of June, the time in which the ad hoc Attorney for the Lava Jato case presented its management report.

On June 6, two days before the presentation, Caruajulca fired Pier Marzo, the director of the Education and Training Center who was in charge of organizing the event.

“The prosecutor ordered not to move a finger, that no one help, that no email be answered; in the ad hoc Prosecutor’s Office they were desperate because they did not receive an answer, ”said another source.

Caruajulca’s excuse, this newspaper learned, is that he did not agree with the guests at the ceremony: prosecutors Rafael Vela and José Domingo Pérez. “I don’t like them,” he said, according to the sources.

The curious thing was to verify that days later, between June 15 and 16, the attorney general smiled at a workshop organized by Javier Pacheco, who last March raised his salary from S / 11,000 to S / 20,000.

Pacheco has been summoned by the Money Laundering Prosecutor’s Office headed by Vela. Lobbyist Karelim López pointed out that he would have tried to charge her “10 thousand dollars for advice” when she tried to be an effective collaborator for the first time.

The sources also refer that the anti-corruption prosecutor does not act alone, but in coordination with Prime Minister Aníbal Torres, another accused by López of having “silenced” former presidential secretary Bruno Pacheco.
