Attorney General highlights citizen trust in the MP

The trust of the Venezuelan people in the Public Ministry (MP) has increased in recent years due to the level of response by this autonomous body, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, said on Sunday.

«The number of complaints has grown because there is confidence that the person who denounces will be heard, that he will not be persecuted. We have recovered the institutionality in favor of the people,” Saab declared in an interview on the Situational Analysis program, broadcast by Globovisión.

The prosecutor assured that the key to achieving this achievement has been the approach of the MP to the citizens.

In this sense, he mentioned the program “Public Ministry Goes to your Community”, in which workers of the entity, accompanied by prosecutors from each state, travel to communities nationwide to provide direct care to citizens.

He specified that, in 12 sessions that have been carried out in the program in approximately four months; Care has been provided to a little less than 7,000 people, of which 1,265 managed to file formal criminal complaints and 5,536 received tax guidance or were referred to a competent entity.

Likewise, he pointed out that most of the complaints that are made in these sessions do not correspond to serious crimes such as fraud, robbery, kidnapping, among others; but to things that are closer to people’s lives and their daily lives, such as domestic violence and child support by mothers or fathers.

He stressed that this program arose not only taking into account the fear or lack of confidence of citizens to report due to previous mismanagement, but also considering the inhabitants of communities with difficult access who probably do not have the resources to move to a tax headquarters and make a formal complaint.

In addition, he highlighted the results of the Citizen Approach and Immediate Attention Plan, which since August 24 has allowed more than 1,600 citizens to come forward to file complaints. This plan consists of the provision of spaces for MP officials to serve citizens directly outside the prosecutor’s offices at the national level.

He pointed out that in this modality it has been observed that the complaints correspond to personal injuries, psychological violence, harassment, threats, fraud, among others.

On the other hand, the prosecutor mentioned that the measures applied by the Venezuelan State against police malpractice –which include the call on citizens to record these irregular acts on video– have resulted in a notable decrease in crimes of torture, violence and other crimes. forms of human rights violations by Venezuelan police officers.

With regard to bullying, he specified that more than 3,000 people have participated in 55 activities related to the fight against violence and harassment in educational institutions and the abuse of children and adolescents.

These days have had the support of teachers and management staff of the same, as well as advocates for children and adolescents; police officers, among others.
