Attorney asks to stop speculation and conjecture about the Juan Medina case

The Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito requested this Friday the cessation of speculation and conjecture that could damage the morale of Deputy Attorney General Juan Medina de los Santos, and clarified that his removal was not done due to a disciplinary trial, nor were illegal actions imputed to him as has been spreading.

In a communication made public by the Department of Public Relations of the Attorney General’s Office, Germán Brito explains that duty forces her to speak out publicly about the campaign of unfounded and unsupported accusations that have been launched against Medina de los Santos.

“Duty forces me to publicly express my regret for the campaign of unfounded and unsupported accusations that has been launched against our collaborator and deputy attorney Juan Medina, who, as a human being, father and career prosecutor, deserves my respect and good rating,” he says.

It adds that “it should even be noted that the procedure by which he has been relieved of his duties did not constitute a disciplinary trial, nor were illegal actions imputed to him as has been reported, but rather it was a measure taken by the Superior Council of the Ministry Public with a dissidence, and it is part of the powers of the body that I preside over.”

Attorney Germán Brito emphasizes that morality is something easy to mistreat, difficult to repair, that no one has the right to tarnish unjustifiably.

It was recalled that Medina de los Santo was replaced in his functions by the General Inspectorate of the Public Prosecutor’s Office this week by decision of the Superior Council of the persecuting body and José Viterbo Cabral González, also a deputy attorney, was appointed in his place.

“Duty forces me to publicly express my regret for the campaign of unfounded and unsupported accusations that has been launched against our collaborator and deputy attorney Juan Medina, who, as a human being, father and career prosecutor, deserves my respect and good appraisal.

Morality is something easy to mistreat, difficult to repair, that no one has the right to tarnish unjustifiably.

I know that the recent decisions taken by the Superior Council of the Public ministry have given rise to speculation and conjecture. The truth is that this body took good administration measures for issues other than those that have been publicly commented on and the correct thing to do is to request the cessation of comments that could damage its name.

It should even be noted that the procedure by which he has been relieved of his duties did not constitute a disciplinary trial, nor were illegal actions imputed to him, as has been reported, but rather it was a measure taken by the Superior Council of the Public Ministry with a dissidence, and is part of the powers of the body I preside over.”
