Santo Domingo.- As of September, children under 14 must attend a face -to -face interview at the United States Consulate in Santo Domingo as part of the process to request their visa.
So, for the consular appointment, parents must present themselves with a series of essential documents: original birth certificate of each child, current passport of the child, confirmation of the DS-160 form completed, school certification in case the child is attending classes, and documentation that supports economic stability and family roots in the Dominican Republic as a work letter, banking states, property title, title of property, registration of the vehicle and commercial registration if applied.
This includes work letter, banking states, property title if you have housing, commercial registration if it owns a business, and vehicle registration, in case of having one.
The specialist in consular matters and immigration advisor, Patricia Polanco, explained that although the parents have a current visa or have previously described, it is essential that they attend the interview with all the documentation that demonstrates their economic situation and roots in the Dominican Republic.
This will allow the consular officer to evaluate whether the minor qualifies for a visa through the immigration status and stability of his parents.
Patricia Polanco recalled that the presence of the child in the consulate to complete the visa application process is due to the fact that the interview exemption implemented during the pandemic will be officially eliminated, according to a communication published by the United States State Department.
The appointments for these processes are already being enabled and there is also availability for the months of April and May 2026. Polanco urged parents to plan over time and prepare all the necessary documentation to avoid setbacks in the consular process.
