The Embassy of Panama in Cuba announced this Friday that, for humanitarian reasons, the application of the decree that establishes the transit visa for Cuban travelers is being postponed.
A statement from the headquarters of the Isthmian country in Havana, disclosed on its social networks, indicates that the grace period for the application of Executive Decree No. 19 is extended until March 15 (postponing 72 hours the day initially planned) .
According to the information, people who have tickets from Wednesday, March 16, 2022 onwards and are not in a position to apply for the transit visa within the indicated time, can reschedule their flight and subsequently apply for their transit visa.
The airline Copa Airlines announced that it had planned flexibility for Cuban travelers who had to reschedule their flight, in response to the new transit visa requirements for Panama, reported the Prensa Latina agency.
The immigration measure applies to travelers who pass through that Central American country on their way to another destination, or back to Cuba.
Said visa only authorizes the person to remain in the international transit area of the air terminal, in order to continue the trip.
The decree also establishes the obligation for the interested party to request the visa personally, at a cost of 50 dollars, before the Panamanian consulate in the country where they are located, with a minimum period of 15 business days prior to the date of the trip.
The Cuban authorities stated that they were in contact with the Panamanian Foreign Ministry, with the purpose of serving the interests of nationals who travel to third countries through Panama, respecting the sovereign decision of the authorities of the Isthmian country.
