The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported this Tuesday that the 29 people who were arrested for attacking and burning the headquarters of the Sotillo Mayor’s Office in Puerto la Cruz, Anzoateguí state, will be prosecuted and charged with terrorism.
Through his account on the social network X, the prosecutor stressed that “in Venezuela and nowhere else in the world, despicable acts such as these cannot be classified as peaceful protests nor their perpetrators as “politically persecuted.”
“29 criminals who attacked and burned the headquarters of the Sotillo Mayor’s Office in Pto la Cruz (Anzoategui). These subjects will be prosecuted and charged with acts of #terrorism. In #Venezuela “Nowhere in the world can such despicable acts be classified as peaceful protests, nor can their perpetrators be classified as “politically persecuted,” Saab wrote on his account.
These 29 people are part of the 749 who were arrested for the acts of violence recorded on Monday, July 29in the country.
The prosecutor earlier said that the detainees would be charged, depending on each case, with the crimes of public incitement, obstruction of public roads, incitement to hatred, resistance to authority and terrorism.
