The lawsuit filed by Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner claimsjust as the former president herself did, that it be investigated who are the masterminds of the assassination attemptwhile the federal Justice focuses, at least until now, on the material authors and some eventual accomplices whose contact with the facts arises from WhatsApp conversations.
Although there are still no firm clues, from the federal Justice they insist that all lines of investigation remain open and that they will seek to decipher who could be behind the authors of the failed attack against the vice president that occurred on September 1.
The idea of the attack was planned by people other than those who finally executed it It is one of the main investigative lines pushed by the lawsuit, and this was revealed by the vice president herself last Friday when she argued in self-defense in the trial that she is being followed in the case known as “Roadway.”
“Nobody can think that this band (of material authors) planned or devised the intellectual authorship of what they did to me”Fernandez de Kirchner said from his Senate office in the framework of a hearing that was broadcast live through the YouTube channel arranged by the Federal Oral Court (TOF) 2, which intervenes in this case.
The detainees
For the attack on the Vice President they are arrested and prosecuted as co-authors of the act Fernando Andre Sabag Montiel, the man who fired a pistol with five bullets in the magazine pointed at the former president’s head; and his partner Brenda Uliarte (23), who accompanied him to the scene and bragged in WhatsApp messages of having sent him to commit the assassination.
She is also detained Agustina Diaz (21)who records conversations with Uliarte, at least since July 4, in which there is talk of killing Fernández de Kirchner and even how to hide later to evade the actions of Justice.
And here is a particularity not yet revealed: Díaz used a telephone line in the name of Uliarte and his telephone will begin to be examined this week.
It will not be the only one: there are at least 5 other phones seized in different raids that will be subjected to expert reports in the coming days, although the expectation that significant data will emerge from there is low.
The fourth detainee in the case is Nicholas Gabriel Carrizo (27)the man who became known on September 2 when he starred in an interview with Uliarte on the Telefe television news program, in which he presented himself as the head of a group of snowflake sellers who were receiving threats for having had Sabag Montiel among its employees.
The very conversations found on Carizzo’s phone show him as someone who knew of the plan to kill the Vice President.in addition to the fact that it emerges from them that he would have provided a pistol that was not the one used in the failed attack.
Carrizo voluntarily presented himself to Justice after Uliarte was arrested; In the same way, he handed over his cell phone (and the access code) in which the evidence that incriminates him was found.
After his arrest, The lawyer Gastón Marano appeared to defend him – who at that time was also collaborating with a PRO senator in the bicameral commission intelligence agencies-, and who demanded that Carrizo’s cell phone messages be declared null because he had provided the device as a witness. The attempt, of course, was rejected.
Marano also requested a battery of measures aimed at removing Carrizo from the attack with the idea that he only had a work relationship with the attackers: for this, he will focus on the WhatsApp messages that he accumulates with them until the day of the event.
For judicial investigators, but above all for the complaint, Carrizo’s character is, at least until now, the one who could lead to the possible masterminds of the failed attack, as Télam was able to reconstruct from research sources.
This agency reported last Wednesday that the complaint of the vice president made a judicial presentation with the aim of investigating who is above the detainee Carrizo and that, for this, he provided sensitive data to the file linked to a possible link of the accused and requested that it be investigated in a reserved file.
From Carrizo’s own communications and his handling of WhatsApp and Telegram, lines of investigation emerge in which Justice and its auxiliaries are already working: In the conversations that have already been analyzed by the investigators, elements emerge that place this accused as someone with certain knowledge of the underworld of intelligence.but also of Justice and the actions of the police forces, while appearing as the one who leads Uliarte in the hours after the attack.
It is Carrizo himself who designs the strategy of going to the media to give an interview and from that place he was the one who took care of defining the conditions and gathering, on September 2, the rest of the alleged flake sellers of snow with Uliarte herself.
“Brenda I need us to talk about something. They are investigating us, including you. We have tapped phones (…) we are going to give the media a look. Yes, you have to come with us. But before that we are going to speak here and what you have to say,” Carrizo told Uliarte hours after the failed attack, when he acted as the one who manages all the variables.
Around that time, he also sent a message to his stepsister, scheduled on his phone as “Andrea”, in which he told her that the attack was planned for the following week and that Sabag Montiel was a “asshole” for having failed. There he also told her that he had brought a pistol to the attack and his stepsister tried to reassure him on the pretext that there would be no traces left on the weapon.
Carrizo would later try, during his preliminary statement before Judge María Eugenia Capuchetti and Prosecutor Carlos Rivolo, passing those messages off as part of a “joke,” something that no one seemed to believe.
From the analysis of their own conversations it can even be observed that the tone is, first -in the hours closest to the fact-, that of someone who wants to dominate a situation, and then, perhaps in a strategic turn, that of someone who tries to modify the tone to ever present it as humorous.
Communication between Carrizo and Uliarte
In the hours after the attack, Carrizo told Uliarte how to get around; The conversation was as follows, as reconstructed by Télam:
Reed: Put on a chinstrap and act normal, travel by bondi and that’s it. (…) you should leave now. At this time people go out to work
Brenda: Sorry guys for the mess we got you into.
Reed: The only thing I can tell you is that we are under investigation. They called Miguel’s mother (Ángel Castro Riglos, one of the supposed sellers of snowflakes).
Brenda: Post?
Reed: And they asked him if he had a relationship with Sabag Montiel. It’s not shit.
Brenda: I’m afraid we’ll all go to jail if we go out to talk.
Reed: No boluda, you know what you have to be afraid of, of social condemnation. Legally we did nothing. But justice doubts complicity. I know how these people handle themselves. And I know how people who watch TV take it. You have to go today.
That sequence of messages, which It also included conversations with other members of his group, which continued until the evening of Friday, September 2., when they gave the interview to Telefe; then Carrizo would change the tone of their conversations to the point of accusing Uliarte of having lied to them.
“Boluda listen to me, look here they are on TV they are saying that you saw him the same day (of the event), that you went to collect ten lucas with him and you said on TV you said, that you hadn’t seen him for about two days, that That’s what’s happening, boluda, that’s what I’m telling you, that there are things that are going to remain up in the air and we’ll end up like liars,” I would reproach him.
Days later, on September 14, Carrizo would become the fourth detainee in the case in which the assassination attempt is being investigated.
In this context, the news revealed by Télam this Saturday that Judge Capuchetti decided to reject the jurisdiction conferred on her by her colleague Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi in relation to a case investigating violent messages was not well received by the lawsuit. and threats against the vice president and other members of the government launched from the Federal Revolution account on the Instagram social network.
Now it will be the Federal Chamber of Buenos Aires that will have to decide if this matter is investigated together with the attack on the two-time president, and therefore remains in the hands of Capuchetti, or completely separately, in the hands of Martínez de Giorgi.
Meanwhile, this case became a summary secret while a series of measures were carried out that prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita had requested and that tend to determine who finances that space.
