Just on Monday, the Secretary of Security of the Government of Mexico placed him in second place nationally with 993 intentional homicides in the first four months of the year, only after Michoacán where 1,000 violent deaths were recorded.
According to local authorities, nine out of 10 murders have some link to organized crime.
In Guanajuato there are 10 of the most violent municipalities in the country: León, Celaya, Irapuato, Apaseo El Grande and Salamanca.
During the four-month period January-April, intentional homicides rose in Celaya. This crime went from 116 in the first quarter of 2021 to 153 in the same period of 2022.
In 2021, it registered 3,516 intentional homicides, according to official figures.
The fact reflects the violent wave in Mexico, which registered 33,308 homicides in 2021 after the two most violent years in its history, under the mandate of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with 34,690 murder victims in 2019 and 34,554 in 2020.
The Secretary of Security reported this Monday a total of 9,895 homicide victims nationwide in the first quarter of 2022, a year-on-year decrease of 12.3%.
