The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, arrived this Tuesday in the commune of Contulmo, Biobío region, after an arson attack against the Molino Grollmus -located in the sector-, perpetrated by unknown persons on Monday. In this regard, he said that the State of Exception -in force in the area- “has not been able to respond promptly” and affirmed that they will make modifications regarding “how the security forces are deployed.”
Let us remember that before perpetrating the arson attack, the group of unknown persons fired a series of shots at the building, leaving three people injured. One of them, Carlos Grollmus (75), was hit by a bullet in his left leg. Therefore, she had to be amputated in surgery.

In a conversation with the press, Monsalve expressed his “total repudiation” of the attack, adding that “it is evident that the attack has been aimed at people. There are two people who have unfortunately been seriously injured.”
The undersecretary also said that he spoke with the mayor of Contulmo, who required him to “reinforce security measures.” Regarding this, Monsalve said that “we have committed ourselves to him, that in the framework of the evaluation of the State of Exception, we are going to take new measures that allow us to improve security conditions, but above all to prevent and respond more quickly. “.
“Unfortunately, the State of Exception has so far not been able to respond with the promptness that people require and demand. We are going to make changes again regarding how the forces are deployed in the southern macrozone and particularly in the province of Arauco,” he continued. The authority.
The Undersecretary of the Interior was consulted on what measures he will implement in the area. In this regard, he did not rule out expanding the “provision, the control points, the places where they are located, the equipment that is available.”
Filing of complaint
Monsalve also emphasized the government’s decision to sue for the events that occurred in Contulmo. “The complaints are proof of the government’s determination to prosecute those responsible for the crimes,” he said.
“In crimes of this magnitude there can be no impunity and the lawsuit aims to use the legal tools that allow for effective legal prosecution,” he said.
“There are several crimes here: frustrated homicide, there is an arson attack, there is illegal use of firearms, there are shots, there are roadblocks and eventually, if the Public Ministry manages to identify the people, we will see if we use other legal figures to prosecute and punish these crimes,” he added.
