The Telecommunications and Transportation Regulation and Supervision Authority (ATT) announced the start of “more rigorous” controls on airlinesgiven the growing demand for travel and flight delays reported by air transport users. The controls, said the director of the ATT, Néstor Ríos; includes the state Boliviana de Aviación (BoA).
According to the authority, some 33,000 passengers were affected by the delay or suspension of flights between December 5 and 9.
“From December 5 to 9, 238 flights delayed and 12 flights canceled This generates an impact of more or less 33,000 passengers who in the last week have been affected by this situation,” Ríos told the media in La Paz, on Tuesday.
The dates indicated by Ríos coincide with an incident that occurred at the Viru Viru airport in Santa Cruz, where on December 5 a plane Bolivian Air Transport (TAB) was stranded on the runway for more than seven hours. The ATT quantified in 8,078 passengers and 66 flights affected for the incident.
The controls
According to the director of the ATT, 100% of the institution’s personnel were incorporated into the airports to strengthen airline compliance control and flow.
“It goes without saying that the main player in the domestic air market is BoA, therefore the ATT has to assume a more rigorous control to protect the majority of passengers who use the services of this state company,” he said in a video posted on the institutional Facebook page.
According to the authority, three fundamental objectives will be met: that the airlines give clear information and precise when an event occurs; second, publish departure and arrival times clear and, third, airlines have the obligation to have sufficient staff to be able to orient, guide the passenger and properly provide the service with clear, simple, timely and effective information for the passenger’s purposes.
“It cannot be that passengers are subject to a constant and permanent reprogramming (…). These measures are supported by current regulations and will be strictly applied. Airlines that do not comply with these provisions are exposed to administrative sanctions”Ríos stated.
