Leader of the competition, Galo was 62 points in 29 matches, opening ten points ahead of Palmeiras (second place, also with 29 rounds played) and 12 for Flamengo (third, with two games in hand). Tricolor follows in a difficult situation, in the 19th and penultimate position, with 26 points, seven behind Bahia, the first team outside the relegation zone. Gauchos have 28 duels, one less than Bahians.
Desperate, the Grêmio launched the attack from the beginning. Miguel Borja stayed in the net almost three times in the first ten minutes. The forward shook the net at the two, but the move was invalidated by the video referee (VAR), who detected the Colombian’s offside. At nine, he lost his chance face to face with goalkeeper Everson. Then he hit the dash. If the tricolor phase is bad, Atlético’s is exactly the opposite. On minute 11, midfielder Matías Zaracho received it from forward Diego Costa and opened the scoring at Mineirão.
The duel went to half-time with no more dangerous moves. On the way back to the second half, Grêmio finally reached a draw. At ten minutes, Borja rolled and Jaminton Campaz submitted, leaving everything the same. As fate would have it, at 26, the midfielder himself touched the ball with his arm in the area, in a move verified by the VAR, after a free kick. Forward Eduardo Vargas took the penalty and replaced Galo ahead. From then on, the Minas Gerais team controlled the actions and was little threatened by the Gauchos, each time closer to relegation.
