The competition, on the other hand, was dominated by the Cuban nationalized Portuguese Pedro Pablo Pichardo, who managed to jump 17.95 to become the leader of the season and add the world title to his Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold.
The silver of the triple jump went to Hugues Fabrice Zhango (Burkina Faso), also with a record of the year of 17.55, while the bronze went to the Chinese Yaming Zhu (17.31), also with the best jump of 2022.
Martínez was one of the island’s strongest hopes to get on the podium, and with his defeat, the newspaper points out, the national triple jump once again leaves serious doubts about the planning of his training sessions and the psychological preparation of his athletes to face the big tournaments.
