Presented as “one of the great revelations of South American football”, Canobbio, 23, has signed a five-year contract with the team from the city of Curitiba, the club reported in a note.
“I am very happy to be at Athletico Paranaense, which I chose because it is a great club that has a project, a beautiful structure and great fans. I hope to continue growing in my career here, ”said the striker in statements to his new team.
Canobbio began his professional career at Atlético Fénix at the age of 17.
In 2018 he joined Peñarol, one of the historic clubs in his country, where he won the first titles of his career: two Leagues (2018 and 2021) and a Uruguayan Super Cup (2018).
With the Uruguayan national team, he was champion of the 2017 Sub’20 South American Tournament and has already made his debut with the senior team.
Agustín Canobbio is the son of Osvaldo Canobbio, who was a well-known Uruguayan attacker who played for several teams in his country and Argentina.
Canobbio’s arrival is added to that of Colombian winger Luis Orejuela, who was at the Gremio and will play for Paranaense on loan from Sao Paulo – owner of his sports rights – until the end of the current season.
