When participating in Inauguration of a Chinese automaker (GWM) of electric and hybrid cars in the city of Iracemápolis (SP), 160 km from São Paulo, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva praised China, “the country’s largest commercial partner,” and again criticized the United States government.
“We can’t accept the creation of a lying image against a country like Brazil, which has no litigation in the world,” said the president.
The Chinese company estimates an investment of $ 4 billion by 2026 in the country, which already encompasses the opening of the new factory. From 2027 to 2032, another R $ 6 billion is foreseen.
“China is our main commercial partner. We will try to fight for world trade to be balanced. We want to return multilateralism,” said Lula.
Ally
The president argued that Brazil has been an ally of China for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet. “It is important for people to know that Brazil’s trade with China today is $ 160 billion against $ 80 billion with the United States,” he said.
Lula stated that, because of Trump, the Brazil lives a “unnecessary turbulence”.
“The idea of moving to the world that Brazil is a horrible country to negotiate is not true. I cannot admit that a president of a country the size of the United States can create the amount of untruths he has told about Brazil.”
The president asked more Chinese companies to land in Brazil to generate more jobs. He recalled that when he left the presidency in 2010, there was 3.6 million cars trade. More than a decade later, sales are in the house of 1.6 million vehicles. “That’s why we are recovering industry with credit policy,” he said.
Lula said he did not accept that large countries suffocate the smaller ones. “This is not fair trade. Fair trade is one in which rules are established on equal conditions for everyone.”
Chinese factory
Lula lamented that Ford factories have left Brazil in 2021, and celebrated the arrival of the Chinese company. “This view that the Chinese have that they can occupy a part of the world selling and producing and teaching that we will enjoy.”
Lula addressed the directors of the Chinese company and asked to make Brazil a sales base in Latin America. “For those who want to come, we will be open arms and heart.”
Job
Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, also present at the event, noted that Brazil has the eighth largest automotive industry in the world and that the country received seven new automakers. He praised the Chinese company that will feature a research, development and innovation center. “Here are 700 jobs. By the beginning of next year, 1,300, plus 10,000 indirect,” said Alckmin.
Geraldo Alckmin mentioned that the automotive industry last year grew 9.3%in Brazil, while in the world the average is 2%. “The sale of vehicles grew 14.1%. Due to the wage gain, unemployment fell.”
Starting point
GWM automaker president Mu Feng said the factory is not only a commitment to the Brazilian market, but also the starting point for creating a future with Latin American partners. The company is present in 170 countries.
“Brazil has a solid industrial base and excellent capacity for regional integration. We believe that the commitment of government and Brazilian consumers to innovation, quality and sustainability is totally aligned with our values,” said the Chinese.
He assured that labor rights and corporate responsibility are principles of the company.
