The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, is close to completing his first year at the head of the city administration. And if there are some topics that have been at the center of the conversation, they are: security, infrastructure and the relationship with the National Government.

In this context, in an interview with EL TIEMPO, the local leader took stock of these 12 months in the Mayor’s Office, highlighting the challenges that the capital has had to face.
In terms of infrastructure, Galán highlighted that Bogotá currently has 1,195 work fronts, including those related to the first metro line. This project, one of the most relevant in terms of mobility for the city, It has an advance of over 44% and a monthly rate close to 2%.
“The work must reach a key milestone of 50% next year as a project, in September the first train arrives and from then on all the trains will arrive. The viaduct is being built at a rate close to 200 meters per week. The “The work is going well and we are protecting it and shielding it, in terms of guaranteeing that it does not stop.”he highlighted.
This issue, in particular, has been at the focus of the discussion between the Government and the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá over the development and approach of the work. In this regard, Mayor Galán pointed out that, although there are differences, The local administration is open to dialogue to find solutions.
“We hope that this dialogue will take place thinking about the inhabitants of Bogotá, who are the ones who need the solutions, not a National Government with a local government fighting, but solving problems”he added.

Safety and water
Regarding security, Galán indicated that, although important progress has been made on this front, there are still many challenges ahead. In that sense, he stated that next year efforts will be increased to address these problems, in particular: extortion and murder.
In the case of TransMilenio, the mayor pointed out that the system’s figures show a 30% reduction regarding thefts that occur at stations and buses.
Regarding water rationing measures, he stressed that we must continue to be alert and continue taking care of this resource to address the problem that occurs in the reservoirs that supply the capital.
“The combination of these two things makes us better prepared to face the year 2025, however, the problem is not solved, we are working on this situation and on long-term solutions”said.
