MADRID, Spain.- At least two people have died in Venezuela during popular protests against the electoral fraud perpetrated by Nicolás Maduro on July 28. The demonstrations, which have spread across several cities in the country and have been repressed by the Chavista armed forces, have also left dozens injured and arrested.
The first fatal victim was identified as Rancés Yzarra, a 30-year-old student who lost his life at the Maracay Clinical Hospital (HCM), in the state of Aragua. According to reports from the health center, Yzarra was hit by a bullet while protesting in the vicinity of the San Jacinto roundabout. The Venezuelan dictator’s campaign had already been marked by episodes of violence. At a rally on July 17, the president warned of the consequences of not winning the elections: “The destiny of Venezuela in the 21st century depends on our victory on July 28.
