The number of injured has not yet been given and the damage has not been quantified. Videos posted on social networks captured the magnitude of the event.
At least three people were found dead after the flood recorded on the afternoon of this Monday, January 31, 2022 in La Gasca, in the north center of Quito. Rescue forces helped seven people who were injured.
The force of the phenomenon caused land, garbage containers and vehicles to be dragged along La Gasca street.
The state of the road has prevented the passage of ambulances, so the injured are transferred to a parking lot near the sector, where the ambulances can arrive to attend to them. The corpses are also transferred for their respective removal.
The Municipality of Quito issued a statement, through its social networks, in which it calls on residents to stay on high floors until the respective evaluation of the area is carried out. Officials assess the damage.
Authorities reported that the event occurred in the El Tejado ravine “due to an event of extreme precipitation.”
